The EMAS solution offers

For Runway Safe, safety and long-term commitment will always be our number one priority. We are convinced the arresting system, EMAS – Engineered Material Arresting System, is a great commercial solution for airports to optimize their runway performance.

Optimized performance is just one of many EMAS benefits. Optimized performance means increasing the runway capacity enabling new traffic opportunities such as new long-distance routes, start- and landing of larger aircrafts and adding payload (passengers and cargo). This means one thing – increased safety and performance always go hand in hand enabling airport revenue streams. A win-win solution for both passengers, airlines and airports!

Increased Airport Revenue

Increased runway performance enabling traffic and payload opportunities. For airports with RESA challenges a Runway Safe EMAS can be a commercially interesting option. Instead of reducing the declared runway distances to achieve the sufficient RESA and remain compliant, an EMAS will substantially reduce the RESA demand. This will enable keeping or even increasing declared distances such as the LDA and TODA.

Improved Safety

Saving human lives, protecting assets and infrastructure is what we do. In case of an overrun, the Runway Safety EMAS would bring the aircraft into a safe stop without injuring passengers, pilots and other airline staff. The aircraft remains without damages and can be in traffic shortly after inspection. Surrounding roads, bridges, houses and water streams would be protected thanks to the controlled, predictable and safe stop of the aircraft.

Regulatory Compliance

Accepted by the FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) and several national aviation authorities such as the French DGAC, Japanese MLIT and Italian ENAC among others. Runway Safe complies fully with international aviation authority guidelines of ICAO and EASA. Every installation is subject to a national approval. We guide you through the process based on our expertise and experience.

Sustainability

Increasing safety and performance at existing airports often require an increased footprint by reclaiming land or other measures with environmental impact. Installing an EMAS reduce this need. In addition, the greenEMAS arresting system is made out of 100% recycled silica foam. All installations are local, which means we use locally sourced building materials and workforce.

A safer runway – A safe stop.

A life-long after-market commitment

Fast repairs – short lead times for repair in case of an overrun thanks to national storage and instant availability of repair materials as well as access to a local service organization located close to the airport.

Life cycle concept – a long term inspection, maintenance, and repair package, including a standard two-year warranty can be offered. The Runway Safe EMAS materials are designed to longlasting.

Long term experience – the Runway Safe team has installed more than 100 solutions for airports worldwide. We have proven our capabilities to manage both national and international projects.

Our Products

For safe landings

The Runway Safe EMAS, Engineered Material Arresting System, is a passive safety system for all airports independently if it is new or old, large or small.

Sustainably designed

The greenEMAS is a sustainably designed and passive safety system that deaccelerates aircrafts and bring them to a safe stop in case of an overrun. The main arresting component of the greenEMAS is foam glass (silica foam), which is made from 100% recycled glass.

EMASMAX

Customised cellular cement material

The EMASMAX® bed is made of customised cellular cement material designed to crush under the weight of an aircraft; thus providing predictable, controlled deceleration for all airports independently of fleet mix and regardless of whether or not it is new or old, large or small.

Aircraft Arresting System

The Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) is an aircraft arresting system designed to stop aircraft that overrun the end of a runway during takeoff or landing. When an aircraft lands or takes off, and it fails to stop before the end of the runway, it rolls onto the EMAS bed. The crushable materials of the EMAS bed are designed to deform and crumble under the weight of the aircraft, effectively bringing it to a stop. The arrestor system can be installed at the end of runways where there is limited space for a traditional runway overrun area, or where an overrun area could pose a hazard to people or property beyond the runway.

The aircraft arresting system is an important safety feature for airports and has been successfully used in several emergency situations. Unlike other traditional aircraft arresting systems, such as the net or cable systems, the EMAS system does not damage the aircraft, making it a preferred option for airports and airlines. In the US, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) mandates that certain airports must have an EMAS in place, depending on factors such as runway length and proximity to populated areas.
